This is an absolutely fabulous looking production with a hardback cover and high quality paper used to reflect the quality of the writing and content therein ensuring it will stand the test of time allowing for it to be passed down through generations to come.

The book is extremely wide ranging; developments at Conneff Park are covered in three phases, together with 70 years of survival following the foundation of the club in difficult times.

The book treats the ancient game of hurling stretching back to pre-Celtic times. Camogie and Ladies football are covered from their beginnings at national and local level.

Education from the 1700’s hedge school to the present day Scoil Mhuire Post-Primary School is there. How 7 pupils became 1200 due to the foresight of one lady!

There is lots of local history. The turf man, the hay monger, the blacksmith, the historic townland of Mainham with its Mausoleum, its Motte and old church, its forge and Mass house stretching back hundreds of years to penal times.

Great folk like John Reidy are remembered as is Larry “Hussey” Cribbin, twice All Ireland Football champion with Kildare. So too is Jack Dempsey and many others.

The Ladies’ Committees massive contribution to Clane GAA is dealt with.

You can read about the 88 year old Lord Mayor and former goalie who has been singing in our church over the past 70 years.

Clongowes Wood Colleges’ major contribution to Clane families by way of employment is all there; the butcher, the baker, the tailor, the chef, the ploughman, the milker, the cleaners, the gardener, the turf-cutter, the wood-cutter, the chauffeur, all employed when money was scarce.

Saturday, May 21st at 8.30pm is the date for your diaries, a time to remember. All are invited. Bring your extended family and friends. Make a purchase for the diaspora. The “home town” is always in their memory.

As well as the fantastic written word, there are over 200 photos from the past 100 years and they are a delight. Let the people of 100 years time see what was important to the inhabitants of Clane up to 2022.

You can find out more about the book in our recent interview with Pat which was published on ClubZap and on our web site last month - click here.

The production costs for the book were kindly sponsored by Timmy Murphy and Brookhaven Healthcare. All proceeds from the book sales will go towards the club development plan.
