Football Notes
Hard luck to our U17 Footballers who lost out to Naas in a titanic struggle last Sunday in Newbridge. Clane twice held big leads in the 1st half (7 pts on 12 mins and 6 pts on 27 mins) only to be pegged back on both occasions. Cian Burke was called upon to make a great point blank save mid-way through the half to prevent Naas drawing level and a Naas goal on 29mins brought it back to 2 before Oisín O'Sullivan responded with a brilliant solo effort to give Clane a 5 point advantage at the break. Clane managed to keep Naas at arm's length for much of the 2nd half with thanks to Cian Burke who made a number of great saves before Naas eventually drew level mid way through the half. Clane pulled ahead again and led by 2 with 7 mins left. Naas finally took the lead for the first time in the match with a goal 5 mins from time. Clane responded well and there was just a point in it, deep in injury time before Naas stretched the lead to 2 and saw out the final minutes. It was a super match played in great spirits by two fine teams and I am sure they will go on to contest many finals in years to come. Final score; Naas 3-13 to 1-17 Clane.
Fixtures:
Best of luck to our Ladies Minor Footballers who face Suncroft in this Saturdays Championship final; throw-in is at 11.45am in Rathcoffey. Clane who are captained by Joanne Deay lost to Suncroft by 6 points earlier in the competition and will be looking to turn the tables on their opponents this time around after a superb win against favourites Celbridge in the semi-final.
Clane Óg Academy - Earlier start time this week!
