This Sunday in St. Conleths Park our Minor Football team will contest the County Final against Naas with a 1.30pm throw-in.

This will be our 5th final appearance in a row, which is a testament to the huge amount of work and effort from both the players and coaches over the past number of year. It is also the 3rd final in 4 years to be contested by Clane and Naas.

It has been a very busy year for our Minor Football team in which they have already played in 14 competitive fixtures across league and championship, winning 11, drawing twice and losing just the once. The team performed strongly in the league and went undefeated in the round robin section winning six and drawing one, against Kilcullen before overcoming the same opposition again in the league semi-final. They faced St. Laurences in the league final losing out by 2 points on the day in what was a very tight affair by 0-11 to 1-6. That was to be the 2nd of 4 meetings between Clane and St. Laurences in 2019.

Clane had a very tough opening round of the championship against Celbridge, winning by the narrowest of margins (1-6 to 1-5) before wins over Leixlip and Sarsfields in rounds 2 and 3 respectively. That set up a championship semi-final against old foes St. Laurences which was a very close affair with the lead changing hands on multiple occasions in the final quarter. Down to 14 men for much of the 2nd half, Clane had to dig deep and showed great composure to get the equaliser deep in added time and with that a 2nd bite of the cherry. They made no mistake 2nd time around despite a poor opening quarter when they found themselves 4 points down after 19 mins. Indeed but for a fine save from the penalty spot by Cian Burke on the stroke of half time they would have found themselves 5 points down at the break; instead they went up the field and notched a point to leave only 2 in it. Clane were a different team in the 2nd half, they were a lot more clinical in attack and very efficient in defence, running out winners by 2-9 to 1-7 and securing their 5th Minor A Football championship final appearance in a row and 3rd in a row against Naas.

We wish the team and management the very best of luck and we encourage all of our members to get along to St. Conleths Park early, in your club colours and to get behind our lads. They have worked very hard and deserve our full support!
