Eadestown in 2nd place and Clane in 3rd met Wednesday on a fine summers evening in Clane.
One thing is guaranteed when these 2 teams meet and that is a tight game full of great battles. This time however it bucked the trend; Clane flew out of the traps and took all of their early chances killing the game off by half time. 2 well taken goals by Sam Farrell and a very impressive Tamieko Davis who scored 4-4 on the night, along with a Sean McGinn goal which came at the end of a fine 3 man move from the kick out to net had Clane well ahead at the interval. The goals were complimented by 2 lovely points from Daragh Maceney.
Eadestown had their chances in the 1st half but 2 good goal saves from Evan Dunne kept them at bay. His accurate kick outs also found the hard working Jack Grealish on numerous occasions and he unselfishly set up numerous scores for the forwards. Clanes defence was in a mean mood, with Jamie McCormack and Charlie O'Neill marshalling the back line, Finn Doyle was his usual tigerish self and Neil Vizzard was back to his best. The midfield of Sean McGinn and Joseph Finn played super football and covered every blade of grass on the main pitch, supporting defence and attack.
The 2nd half was a lot more even as Eadestown recovered from the 1st half blitz and imposed themselves a lot more on the game. They couldn't stem the flow of scores though as Clane responded to the pressure well.
Overall it was a very good team performance despite the absence of some players. Having a big panel is key and competition for places is always a good thing as these lads enjoy their Gaelic learning!
