Our U14 Féile hurling squad were in action today in the first round of their campaign away to near neighbours Sallins. On a really difficult day for hurling with heavy rain the team produced a very good performance, particularly in the first half when they put together some great passages of play ending in many fine scores. Sean Tighe had his hands full marking the Sallins centre forward but produced an outstanding display that drove the team on. He was backed up by a very solid performance from our full back line marshalled well by Culann Healy and ably assisted by Daire O'Beirne and Diarmuid Finn in the corners. Ben O'Dea made some fine saves in goals and picked out Luke Hizak and Riann O'Neill very well with his puck outs. Our midfielders the two Daniels (Malone and Colbert) produced an all action performance for the entire match and set up much of the forward moves wtih some great interchanges between Shane Henry and Hugh Muldoon ending in a flag being raised. An injury to Hugh Muldoon early in the 1st half necessitated a switch with Darragh Mullahy at full forward and Darragh made his presence felt with a commanding display for the remainder of the game at centre forward notching a few fine scores. Tadhg and James O'Donoghue worked tirelessly throughout and together with Paddy Connolly they kept the Sallins defence plenty busy. All of the subs who came on played their part in a fine team performance. As well as some fine scores it was very pleasing to see the players getting in some great hooks and blocks and complimented by some quality striking. Well done all.
Next up are Naas in Conneff Park on St. Patricks weekend in what is sure to be a titanic tussle as it always is between the 2 teams.
